Cycas Revoluta Golden
is a species of cycad commonly known as the Japanese Sago Palm, although it is not a true palm. It originates from southern Japan and the Ryukyu Islands. The plant is popular for its ornamental value and can grow up to 3-10 feet tall, with leaves reaching lengths of 2-5 feet.
A variant of Cycas revo luta is Cycas revoluta v. aurea, known as the Golden Tipped Sago Palm. This variety starts with fully green fronds that gradually turn yellow at the tips before browning over time. It shares similar growing conditions with Cycas revolu, requiring well-drained soil and partial shade to full sun.
Both forms of Cycas revolu prefer:
-
: Sandy, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
-
: Full sun or partial shade.
-
: Warm temperatures above 25°C (77°F) in summer; can tolerate mild frost if kept dry but may suffer damage below -10°C (14°F)1.
All parts of Cycas revo are toxic due to the presence of cycasin, making them dangerous if ingested by humans or pets
